Assignment - Week 1

EEL
·         Daily - writing and memorizing Chart A and Chart B
·         Remember repetition over time = Mastery
·         Work on Editing Sentences throughout the week

IEW
REMINDER–The IEW Writing Schedule handed out at the Parent Orientation covers the assignment topic and the dress up/decoration for the week.  Let me know if you need another copy of that.  Also, the vocabulary words are in the back of the U.S. History Student Bk.  There are 4 for each week.  Number them, cut out and put on a ring for review.  Study the first 4 but they do not have to use any in their paper this week.  In future weeks they may.

·         Write a poem about America filled with Quality Adjectives.  Follow the model on pg. 11- U.S. History Writing Lessons Student Book.  A sample poem can be found on pg. A-3(185) in the student book.  All banned words can be found on pg. 6 in Student Book.
·         First year students - 1 or 2 Quality Adjectives per line.
·         All other students and older 1st yr. students - add an Alliteration (SRN pg. 5 bottom box)
·         A checklist is on the bottom of pg. 11 you may use it to follow up.
·         OPTIONAL CHALLENGE:  (If you think your student is up to the challenge, choose one of the words "that, of, or with" and follow with a phrase to complete the thought.  (See sample poem on pg. A-3)
·         Make your Title very large and bold, this poem will be the cover of your book.  Illustrate your final copy or print it on specialty paper.

As Mr. Pudewa instructs, help your student as much as they need.  They will soon get the hang of it as we progress along.  Use your discretion and tailor the assignment so as not to cause frustration.  Our goal is to make writing an enjoyable process.
